My childhood was spent in West Texas and New Mexico, and that area is generally the setting of my stories. Austin, Texas, has been home since getting out of the Army (except for stints at graduate school and on a farm in the Ozarks). I have degrees from the University of Texas at Austin (studio art) and Columbia University (library science). For many years I was a freelance commercial animator. Computers became tools for me when, with an Apple II+ (48 Kb!!), I automated an Oxberry Master animation stand (a downshooter). I retired from the staff of the Reference Department of the Texas State Library in May, 2006. My wife (a librarian at the University of Texas at Austin) and I are the parents of two sons: the older recently graduated from UT Law, and is now with Hunton & Williams in Dallas, while the younger is majoring in geology at SF Austin in Nacogdoches.
